A Poem
If by chance I am here
then by chance I will speak
that by chance you might know
I had no chance when I was weak
Weak in sin, weak in soul
but now in him, I am made whole
Weak and wandering about
living life in shame and doubt
If by chance crucified
If by chance he bled and died
If by chance he arose
If by chance the story goes
Then by chance I can see
that "by chance" his name must be
for by chance all this was done
by the one who was God's son
And if by chance I am here
then by chance I will say
that by chance you might know
Jesus is the truth, the life, the way
then by chance I will speak
that by chance you might know
I had no chance when I was weak
Weak in sin, weak in soul
but now in him, I am made whole
Weak and wandering about
living life in shame and doubt
If by chance crucified
If by chance he bled and died
If by chance he arose
If by chance the story goes
Then by chance I can see
that "by chance" his name must be
for by chance all this was done
by the one who was God's son
And if by chance I am here
then by chance I will say
that by chance you might know
Jesus is the truth, the life, the way

How in the world?
How is it that I find statements like this in my reference textbooks?
"The One God of all cannot be limited to any one perception of God, whether Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or any other. This is probably the greatest hurdle most Christians have to face."
Yep. Page 258 of Evans, Craig A., ed. From Prophecy to Testament. Peabody, MA: Hendrickson Publishers, Inc. The author of the section mentioned is named James A. Sanders (Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center and Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, CA). Go figure... he taught at Union Theological Seminary.
I guess this hurdle is just one that we have to jump over in the race of life. I've cleared it... and so have the NT writers (Jn 14:6; 1 Tim 2:5). Have you?

Posting-Lite
Sorry for the lack of posting recently. I'm working two jobs and going through a grad class. This is going to be a busy "season" of life for us... hopefully a shorter than longer "season." I'll try and post new resources when I can, but bear with us and try going back through old posts and freshening up on great past resources. Thanks!

The Power of a Breath - Isaiah 2:22
This is the sermon I delivered to my preaching class earlier this year. It was inspired by Paul Washer's message "Life Verses."

The Fire
Here's an earnest plea for the souls of the "churched."
...but don't be motivated merely from guilt and fear. Rather, let it drive you to understand God's mercy toward you and his patience towards you to give you a chance to hear and repent. His kindness leads us to repentance.

Soul-Winning Made Easy
This is just too funny... Shows how the modern gospel has been really watered down and twisted.

Here's the full video of An Encounter with Patrick at Texas Tech. This was another way to try and share the gospel creatively.
We Believe, Therefore We Speak (2 Cor. 4:13-15)
Well, the day finally came for me to preach on a Sunday morning. I have a long way to go, but I hope this is encouraging to everyone. Any critiques are more than welcome.

If you have no idea what this is about, spend your life here.

An Encounter with Patrick at Texas Tech
This was recorded a while back, but I didn't ever post it to the blog. I hope it helps!
Dating for the Glory of God
Dating for the Glory of God? How does that work out? Well, in this lesson, I led our students through Genesis 2:24 and 1 Corinthians 6 to examine Dating through God's eyes.

New Blog Theme, Your Thoughts?
I'm trying a new theme that will fit in these wide videos without having them overlap the links in the sidebar on the right.

The Problem of Evil
"If God exists, why do bad things happen?" This was the question that prompted our "Questions" study series with the youth at our church. In case anyone missed a lesson, we began recording each week. Here's the first part of a hopefully long and beneficial series. Sorry for the poor audio quality on this first one. The recorder was on the wrong setting, but the rest should be better.

10 Indictments
I was so excited when I found the video to this message that I listened to a while back. It's long, but worth it.

An Encouragement to Share Your Faith from a Famous Atheist
This just blew me away to hear... it's Penn Jillette from the magic act Penn & Teller recounting an encounter he had with a Christian who witnessed to him in a "kind, sane" manner. Man, what a difference it makes when you witness out of a heart of genuine compassion. Listen how Penn explains the logic behind witnessing (and even appreciates it).

Oswald J. Smith on Ministry and World Missions
Here's a short clip (or clips) of the great Oswald J. Smith giving testimony of his life and to world missions. It's vintage, so appreciate it for all it's worth. My favorite quote from Oswald is found in his work "The Revival We Need." It goes like this:
"Oh, my friends, we are loaded down with countless Church activities, while the real work of the Church, that of evangelizing the world and winning the lost, is almost entirely neglected."
